June Teufel Dreyer received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Wellesley College, Master’s Degree in East Asian Studies from Harvard and joint Ph.D. in Government and East Asian Studies from Harvard. Professor Dreyer has done field research in China, Taiwan, and Japan. She is currently Professor of Political Science at the University of Miami. Professor Dreyer has served as Chief Far East Specialist for the Library of Congress, Asia Advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations, and as a commissioner of the congressionally-established United States-China Economic and Security Review Commission. She is a senior fellow of the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a member of the International Institute for Security Studies, and serves on the editorial board of Orbis and the Journal of Contemporary China. Dreyer has published numerous books and articles on such topics as ethnic minorities in China, the Chinese military, Sino-Japanese relations, Asia-Pacific security issues, and is the author of a general book on China, China’s Political System: Modernization and Tradition, now in its sixth edition.
